Thanks to Facebook, (and IKEA and Intel), the Era of Social Commerce is upon us

Posted on Monday 30 November 2009

There have been several clever Facebook promotions hatching lately. Following are two examples which go beyond “branded entertainment” and begin to drive revenue. Both rely heavily on the social graph.

IKEA uses Facebook (and photo tags) instead of traditional media to promote new store opening. Read more

Oh, I almost forgot. Thanks to Twitter, a friend could be an ad too. The game here seems pretty simple: find a person of influence and get him or her to promote your message to their followers. Ad.ly is trying to make this tactic into a service. Read about it.
In the very near future, I foresee sports and entertainment properties selling tickets via promotions like these. Stay tuned.

After seeing the Ikea promotion, I am thinking of doing something similar at our Athletic Department. Posting a series of photos depicting fans wearing team mercahndise and having fans tag themselves to win the gear.

We talk a lot about how big brands are embracing social media as a mechanism to connect directly with customers. Still, it’s much easier to talk about integrating social media into our brand than it is to actually do it by IKEA.

As the Social Media us expanding its reach, Big brands are focusing to utilize its potential. So is the case with IKEA rather than spreading word the old-fashioned way, they decided to go directly to the people using Facebook. This IKEA's facebook campaign resulted thousands and thousands of users willingly promoting IKEA and its new store to others, creating a big win for IKEA.

Nice job.I am thinking of doing something similar at our Athletic Department. Social Media promotion gives you the power to take an active role in managing your brand by creating interactive profiles (micro websites) with your product/service information.

It’s really nice blog about online advertising and good to know about way to market your product. Online marketing is really gaining rapid popularity. To promote our site or product we have to do advertising so that people should know about it. Even i used to promote my site and sell my product online through fullservicead and my business is really growing.

I think this is a good way of promoting and i think Ikea know the way to go. Also one more important thing is that social media marketing is the way of the future. Its the only way to remain in business and gain some good clientele over the period of time. And ones not using social media to connect to their clientele are loosing out on their business especially business that depend on good PR.
