The Indianapolis Colts fan social network, MyColts.net is building its brand by offering members access to experiences other fans can’t get.
One example: the MyColts.net Game Ball.
Each week during the season one fan will be selected to receive a personalized game ball. These balls are official NFL footballs, and they’re painted by the same company that does the balls for Colts players and coaches.
Winners are not selected at random. To earn this prize, a fan has to add value to the MyColts.net community in meaningful ways. The Colts are interested in building quality interaction within the community rather than merely attracting game players. The game ball carries the winner’s name as well as his / her screen name.
It’s great to see how fellow mycolts.net members react when a winner is announced. Note all the supportive comments on this thread.
The game ball promotion is just one example of MyColts members gaining special access and prizes through participation in community. Some prizes are awarded based on the number of Colts Cred points a fan has earned. Others are awarded more subjectively by moderator based on the quality the fan has added to the community.
So far fans have earned chances to attend the team’s private kick-off luncheon (seated with alumni players and coaches), appear on pre-game radio show as guest football expert…and more.
Not selecting winners at random is a good approach. And it is very interesting to have meaningful values from the fans. The talent and the recognition together will build a good interaction with the community.
I want to do this year, play high school ball for one or two years to get a scholarship. But now I need a basketball mentor/teacher to help me getting ready for the next step.thanks for this game.
How much does it cost to deliver a game from Ireland to the UK or anywhere in Europe? Xbox 360 games and only standard delivery! Thanks for your help!
Good post, Your comments should not be so long that you need to highlight certain sections, short and sweet are best. I however disagree (an honest disagreement) with the bolding and attempt to highlight words. This looks like a very interesting. Thanks
This is a fine example of branding. When i was a kid Johny U. used to come sign balls at the local sporting goods store. I live in MD. The more things change the more they stay the same.
I really like this one. really cool. Best of luck for you.
This contest is great because it sticks to the basics. WIFM – What's in it for me. The game ball is a great incentive to get users involved. The personalization on the ball is a nice extra touch that builds the relationship with consumers.
Thats a great example of combining old and new methods for pr / promotions. My local football club ( soccer) Plymouth Argyle does something similar. The match ball is always keenly contested.
