UserPlane gains traction in sports

Posted on Tuesday 23 September 2008

I saw a press release tonight about UserPlane.com and thought I’d share some of it here. I really like the guys over there. Very smart and a pleasure to work with. They’ve been very solid partners for us this year as we’ve established the Sports Marketing 2.0 Summits

From Userplane:Userplane, the world’s premier social software provider for online communities and one of the largest global social media ad networks, announced today that its social networking apps are powering both official and fan-driven social media sites for some of the nation’s biggest professional sports teams.
Sites dedicated to sports teams and their fans such as www.redskins.com, www.49ersfaithful.net, and www.weareredsoxnation.com use Userplane Webchat with Minichat and Webmessenger, enabling fans to connect, complain or pontificate about their favorite teams without leaving the comfort of home.

The Washington Redskins site (www.redskins.com) is the team’s official web home, largely dedicated to content. By embedding Userplane’s Minichat application within articles at the site, users can see and participate in live chat among readers as they view those articles.

A site dedicated to Boston’s MLB team (www.weareredsoxnation.com) is part of a larger social networking community called WeAre.Us, and offers chat rooms using Userplane Webchat and instant messaging powered by Userplane Webmessenger.

A popular website for 49ers fans (www.49ersfaithful.net), powered by KickApps, also offers Webchat during live games.

Userplane has been a sponsor of several events organized by Sports Marketing 2.0, a digital think-tank for sports marketers who look to leverage opportunities to engage enthusiasts in the social web.

Funny…we’re preparing a major upgrade to MyColts.net later this year, and just today I was talking with Userplane about the possibility of using its “presence’ application so that Colts cans can see other fans who are online in real time. I’ll let you know how that goes.
