Do you remember the first moment you discovered “mobile” widgets? I do. I was standing in the SF Giants locker room, right next to the dessert table as I recall, after our Sports 2.0 VIP Summit back in May. It had been a long day, and I had already met a lot of great people doing some very cool things in the world of digital sports marketing.
Just then, these two guys come up to me brandishing mobile phones and big smiles, like the cats who ate the canaries. Why were these men smiling and why was each of them holding multiple mobile devices?
I came to find out these guys were, Krishna Vedati, and Raghu Chandrapati. They were from a company called, Plusmo, and they were smiling because they were about to show me something very cool, a tool for publishing content to mobile devices using a mobile browser…it was a “mobile widget”! .
It took me a few moments to wrap my brain around the concept, but the bottom line is that Plusmo allows Web publishers to syndicate content to mobile devices just by updating the CMS on the main site. At the Colts, this would come in handy for something we were struggling with, scoring alerts. It would save us the extra step of loading scores manually into our RSS database.
I was just clicking around the Plusmo site this morning, and found some cool tools for publishing content. I enabled a mobile widget my this blog. All by myself, mind you. You can click on this button and get Sports 2.0 content (updated magically) through your mobile browser rather than E mail. And here it is:

There’s a lot more to learn about this technology and this company. They are doing some especially cool things with iPhones. Happily, since we first met, Plusmo has become a sponsor or our Sports 2.0 Summit…so if you’re coming to our Los Angeles event on September 10, you’ll get a chance to meet Krishna and Raghu for yourself.
Here are a few other companies worth checking out their mobile apps: Qik, WebMessenger Mobile, JoikuSpot, and UbiSafe. Won’t be able to make the Summit but looking forward to hearing your reaction and report.
ya i do remember my first mobile widget.it was in jan 2007.it was a great experience
