What does this mean for sports Websites?

Bulk of GM Advertising Budget Bumped to Online From Ad Age via Sports Ad Marketplace E newsletter
In an amazing decision, GM, the nation’s third largest advertiser, is getting ready to shift nearly half of its $3 billion budget to digital and one-to-one marketing over the next 3 years. That will be an astounding 500% increase over the 2007 $197 million online display advertising in the first year alone. Everyone knows that as GM goes, the industry will follow, and over the last couple of years GM has shifted over a $100 million from TV to online advertising. The automotive industry is the leader in the advertising category and pumped over $9.42 billion into the ad economy in 2007. If the online advertising world were compared to surfing, “Mavericks” has come to life as the Pacific storm and the huge waves that have arrived, are about to break upon its shore.

I think you will be seeing this trend growing in years to come. With the explosion of the internet still going, especially the spreading of high speed connections, more companies are going to go online.
