First Sports Marketing 2.0 Summit Conference set for NYC

Posted on Wednesday 19 December 2007

What should online sports sponsorship look like now that fans run the Web?

This is a central question that will be addressed on February 12, 2008 as sports teams, sponsor brands, 2.0 technology partners and interactive agencies meet in NYC for the first ever Sports Marketing 2.0 Summit.

Visit Sports Marketing 2.0

In conjuction with this event, I will be launching a community site for readers of this blog and others aligned with its mission. My good friend and blogger, Doug Karr, is organizing the site on the NING platform. It doesn’t have any content in it yet, and I’m not officially releasing it yet, but it is open for your membership if you want to sign up.

The Sports Marketing 2.0 site is intended to provide a platform for anyone who has something to say about this topic, or who wants to build his or her reputation in this space. It will be a great place to blog about digital sports marketing. The site will also be useful to help digtially-minded sports marketers meet other like-minded folks and find new opportunities to work with eachother.

Getting back to the Sports 2.0 Summit in NYC…this blog (that’s me) is organizing the event along with the International Sponsor Council and with help from our good friends at UserPlane

The Summit will be invitation only, and it will be kept fairly small (60 people max) so that all attendees get a good chance to meet eachother and exchange ideas. We’ll organize panel discussions on topics ranging from media buying and resarch to widgets to social communities, with each panel intended to help sponsors / brands learn more about what’s happening (and what’s possible) the the Sports 2.0 space.

If you’re reading this blog and you’d like to hear more or request an invitation to this event, please use the contact form and shoot me a note. I’ll do my best to accomodate. I have to make sure we get a balance of sports teams, sponsors, agencies and tech providers, and as I said, I’ve only got 60 slots.

But if we can’t find room for this first event, please note that I plan to hold similar events in other cities across the U.S. in early 2008. More than likely we will visit San Francisco and Chicago plus a few others.

THIS JUST IN — SINCE SEATING IS SO LIMITED IN THE NYC VENUE, AND SINCE I’M ALREADY GETTING A LOT OF INTEREST, I’M THINKING OF HOLDING A ‘MIXER’ THE NIGHT BEFORE (ON MONDAY THE 11TH).

Anyone in NYC area interested in meeting for drinks or dinner or whatever that night? Somewhere in Manhattan TBD. If at least 12 folks want to do it then I’ll help get it organized through this blog. Please leave a comment on this post or send me a message. Thanks.
