It’s July 3 and after today I’m on vacation for the next 12 days. Here’s a short list of things I hope NOT to think about while I’m away:
1. Tony Dungy’s book tour (and media appearances) begins July 10. He’ll be appearing on the Tonight Show and Good Morning America…and may mention his blog, which could put mycolts.net on the map.
2. July 15 is the scheduled launch date for myindianafootball.com. We’re still slinging code and trying to find administrators for each school site. We’ll make it, but it’ll be interesting…
3. August 15 is the scheduled launch date for the redesigned Colts.com - ironic that this, our most important site, has been in the background for so long as we launch our newer sites. Colts.com needs some serious love before the season begins.
4. The “custom group” pages are piling up - we need to design geographic groups, sponsor groups, media groups, celebrity groups / profile pages and I’ve got to pitch them…BEFORE the season begins
5. Marketing plan? Rollout plan for the new sites? Oh, yes, need those too!
While my unconcious mind is working on all this and more, I’ll (hopefully) be totally focused on my family as we travel the the great state of Michigan for some fun in the sun.
When I return, I hope to find some way to liven up this blog. It feels like I’m going round in circles a bit. I suppose the new sites will give me a lot of news to report, but by the way my readership numbers are sinking, I’m not sure anyone out there is interested.
So - in the spirit of Web 2.0 - I’ll throw it out there - I NEED YOUR HELP - please add comments to this blog post and let me know if there’s anything you want me to write about. Any questions you have about the Colts strategy or areas you’d like to see me cover? I could use your input to get energized again. Thanks!

I for one think that you have EXCELLENT contents here for many to learn from. Your post before this one, “Niche marketing to the “Mass”(sters) is a great read. The traffic issue is purely due to the lack of marketing, which, is not the original intent of your blog. Nonetheless, very unique content and insight here. I’ll be blogging about the parallels of my startup linking back to your previous niche marketing post.
Thanks for the kind words. While it’s true that I’m not trying to make money by driving traffic to my site, I must confess that I was happy to see my daily audience growing for the first 6 months…lately, the last month or so, traffic has flattened and begun to decline. Surely I could so more (or at least some) linking to other blogs…but I find it’s about all I can do to write every day. Maybe i need to write every other day and spend the “other” day going viral.
Pat, have a great 4th of July vacation with your family. As a frequent reader, I profess that I haven’t been as active on the comments as I should be. Your blog has a lot of interesting and insightful content. I’m sure that the decline in traffic will have a resurgence, come football season. I’ll be sure to send you an email directly on my thoughts about your blog.
Remember too that a lot of us sports people are trying to escape ourselves during the off-season.
Hearing your insights and surprises as mycolts.net grows would be more than enough for me.
Enjoy your vacation!
Great article, thank you
