H.S. Football site(s) raise venture capital

Posted on Thursday 30 November 2006

Takkle, an online social network for high school sports, has received first round venture funding. This site will have info on all high school sports, but from the title it appears that they understand that footall is the biggest draw. Takkle allows high-school sports teams and players/coaches to create player and team profiles, upload videos and photos, track and view statistics, check out opponents before games, and discover athlete talent. Read the full press release here.

I know of one other site that is focused on youth football, eteamz.

There has been a lot of hype around HS football lately. ESPN, local TV, Cable and radio stations are all carrying HS games.

Here at the Colts we have a growing youth football initiative which includes coach of the week program, football camps and more. We see and opportunity to become THE central point of football information in our state (from NFL to youth), and just like Takkle and others, we see user generated content as the key to this strategy, but it looks like we better hurry up - venture capital has a way of speeding up the game!
