I stumbled on this article today. Thought readers might find it interesting in light of my post the other day about ways NFL teams might use Myspace.

We are creating a myspace page for the team and we do plan to create other pages for our mascot and other Colts personalities. These pages are fairly easy to create. What’s difficult is controlling what fans will do with this content once it’s posted on-line.

It is nearly impossible to keep control of registered trademarks and copyrighted material in a digital environment. All across the NFL we’re seeing fans grabbing logos and photos and even creating fictional myspace pages where they impersonate NFL players. These trends are dangerous for all concerned. Our answer will be to invite fans to join our fan network. Inside the network fans who wish to use our marks to display their team pride may do so. We’re hoping that satisfies the majority of fans.
