Trapped in pizza hell

Posted on Tuesday 29 August 2006

I love  pizza. Growing up in Chicago I had several favorite joints. Barnaby’s thin crust with sliced tomatoes, onions, and green peppers. Piero’s or Eduardo’s for stuffed spinach. And Tombstone frozen in a pinch.

Here in Indy (as much as I love this city) pizza is a problem. We are overwhelmed with the national chains (which I refuse to eat) and sorely lacking for quality local options.

We finally found one local place that is a passable, but every week they seem to be trying to drive us away. Every week we order the same thing. Every week the product quality varies. The staff does not remember us. The delivery is eratic. They won’t let you call ahead and dine in. And if they get too busy they just stop answering the phone. To add insult to injury, my kids are getting used to this pizza - so if we try to order from anywhere else they grumble. Yet we continue to tolerate this store because we know the options are even worse. I’m trapped in pizza hell!

Do I have to start my own pizza restaurant just so I could get a decent pie and be treated like a loyal customer?

Whew. That’s a heavy penalty.

Please tell me you don’t like that Chicago bread that they throw toppings on… I think they call it ‘deep dish’ something or another.

Get a real pizza at Bazbeux!

      There’s one in Carmel.

Coming from Philadelphia I really have to agree!! Pizza is really bad here in Indy. We have however found a REAL pizza place that has just opened in Fishers - Cio’s Pizza. They serve a true NY style pie that rivals anything I’ve had in NY (or anywhere for that matter).
